How it works
The active ingredient in REGAINE® for Women Foam is Minoxidil. In female pattern hair loss, a combination of genetics, hormones, and age causes progressive shrinking of certain scalp follicles and shortening of the hair’s growing cycle. Over time, the active growth phase for hair becomes shorter, producing smaller and finer hairs with each cycle. Eventually, there may be no growth at all.
Minoxidil works by increasing the supply of blood and nutrients to your hair follicles helping to strengthen the existing hairs and encouraging them to grow. It helps to promote hair regrowth in 4 ways:
- Reverses miniaturisation of follicles
- Increases blood flow around follicles
- Stimulates follicle movement from resting to hair growth phase
- Extends each follicle’s growth phase
Although REGAINE® for Women Foam may look like a hairstyling mousse, it’s actually a topical foam that reactivates resting hair follicles and helps regrow hair.
How to use
Step 1: Use on dry scalp. Hold the can vertically upside down to dispense half a capful of foam to a non-absorbent surface, such as a soap dish or a plate. Part your hair to expose the troubled areas.
Step 2: Apply directly to the scalp with a massaging motion. As the foam penetrates the skin it reactivates hair follicles that have become inactive.
Step 3: Wash your hands well with soap and water. Once the foam dries completely, style hair as usual.
We suggest to use REGAINE® at night as part of your daily routine, let it dry and Minoxidil can work during the night.
For Optimal Results
- Use only the recommended dosage of half a capful once a day.
- Apply REGAINE® for Women Foam to a dry scalp.
- Let the foam air-dry and then follow your normal styling routine.

Female Pattern hair loss disrupts the hair growth cycle over time. Each growth cycle produces shorter, finer hairs until growth ceases. Female Pattern hair loss causes hair follicles to shrink in size, so while you may see hair growing, when left untreated, your follicles will continue to shrink and produce progressively thinner hair.
Once you start using REGAINE®, you may notice you are losing more hair during weeks 2 to 6. Don’t worry — this is actually a good sign. It means that REGAINE® is working to reactivate your follicles, ready to grow new thicker hair. So keep going, this shedding shouldn’t last more than 2 weeks. If shedding persists for more than two weeks, stop using this product and consult your doctor.
