About Motilium 10Motilium 10 contains 12.75 mg domperidone maleate (which is equivalent to 10 mg domperidone) as the active ingredient.The other ingredientsare: lactose, maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinisedpotato starch, polyvidone, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicondioxide, polysorbate 20, hypromellose and propylene glycol. What is Motilium 10 for?Some people experiencenausea (feelings of sickness or queasiness), fullness, belching, heavybloated stomach symptoms, trapped wind and heartburn after food anddrink (i.e. a meal). This may be because the stomach's digestive rhythmhas slowed down and is not moving food contents in the right directionthrough the digestive system as efficiently as it needs to.Motilium 10 tabletstreat these symptoms. They work by helping your stomach to move foodcontents through your digestive system normally and in the rightdirection, so that they don't stay too long in one place. Before you take Motilium 10Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking these tablets if:• you are allergic to domperidone or any of the other ingredients of Motilium 10;• you have a disease of the pituitary gland (prolactinoma);• you have an underlying illness affecting the digestive system, for instance:• you have a stomach or duodenal ulcer;• you have a blocked or perforated gut;• your bowel motions (stools) are often black, suggesting gut bleeding;• you frequently have severe stomach cramps• you have kidney or liver problems.• you are receiving any other medicine or treatment.Taking other medicines at the same timeIf you are taking an antifungal medicine containing ketoconazole by mouth, see your doctor before taking Motilium 10.Pregnancy and breast-feedingIf you are pregnant orthink you might be pregnant ask your doctor or pharmacist for advicebefore taking Motilium or any other medicine.Do not take Motilium 10 if you are breast-feeding because small amounts of Motilium can enter the milk. How to take Motilium 10Adults and adolescents (over 16 years old)Take one tablet up to 3 times a day and one tablet at night.Children (under 16 years old) Not recommended.Do not take thesetablets continuously for more than 14 days in a row. If your symptomsare not better after this time, it may be a sign that you have adifferent medical problem. Please talk to your doctor.Do not take more than 4 tablets in 24 hours. If you or someone else takes too many tablets, tell your doctor or go to the nearest hospital casualty department. Immediately. Possible side effectsLike all medicines, Motilium 10 can have side effects.The following sideeffects have occurred rarely: rise in the blood level of the hormoneprolactin, possibly leading to sore or swollen breasts (even in men),fluid leaking from the nipples or a stop in menstrual periods.The following sideeffects have occurred very rarely: uncontrolled movements of the eyes,face or neck, trembling and muscle stiffness, hives or skin rash.Stomach cramps of short duration have also been reported very rarely. Ifthey keep happening for more than a day, talk to your pharmacist ordoctor.Allergic reactions (orsensitivity) to domperidone maleate are also very rare. The signs are arash; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing and/or a swollen face. Ifyou get any of these symptoms , stop taking Motilium and see your doctoras soon as possible.If you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist. Storing your medicineKeep out of the reach and sight of childrenDo not take this medicine after the month shown on the packWhat else you can do to stop these symptoms from happeningThe type of nausea or upset stomach treated by Motilium 10 can be caused by:• eating too much;• eating too quickly; or• certain `triggers', such as coffee, fatty foods or alcohol.There are things you can do to help stop future attacks of this type of stomach problem.Keep away from your`triggers'. If there are certain foods, drinks or situations that youknow bring on your symptoms try to cut them out or cut down.Go easy on snacks. Snack foods often contain a lot of fat, and can make your symptoms worse.Eat regularly. Have three or four meals a day, at the same times, and don't rush your meals.
