Doxycycline
What is Doxycycline and how does it work?
Doxycycline is the other first-line antibiotic treatment for chlamydia. This antibiotic is from the group called tetracyclines which is also effective in killing chlamydia trachomatis, the bacteria responsible for chlamydia infections.
Doxycycline works by stopping the bacteria that causes chlamydia from being able to continue growing and multiplying anywhere in the body.
Treatment is around 95% effective in treating chlamydia after one course of treatment. Treatment failure is rare and often the result of failure to complete the course of antibiotics properly.
Doxycycline is the first-line treatments given for chlamydia infections. If you have an allergy to these types of treatments, you should discuss with your regular GP about using alternative antibiotics. It is important to note that no natural or alternative herbal treatments have been proven clinically effective for treating chlamydia.
