Nurofen Plus 32 Tablets are for the short-term treatment (up to 3 days) of acute, moderate pain that has not been relieved by simple painkillers such as paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin alone. Each tablet contains Ibuprofen 200 mg (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, NSAID) and Codeine phosphate 12.8 mg (an opioid painkiller) to provide dual-action pain relief.

Dosage
Adults, the elderly and children 12 years and over:
- Take 1–2 tablets with water, preferably with or after food.
- Repeat the dose every 4–6 hours if needed.
- Do not take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours.
- Do not use for more than 3 days. If you still need pain relief after 3 days, or symptoms get worse, talk to a doctor or pharmacist.
Do not give to children under 12 years.
Warnings & precautions
Important: This medicine contains codeine which can cause addiction if you take it for longer than recommended. It also contains ibuprofen, which can irritate the stomach and, rarely, affect the kidneys or circulation.
- For short-term use only (up to 3 days). Using for longer increases the risk of dependence and serious side-effects.
- Do not take with any other medicines containing codeine, ibuprofen, aspirin or other NSAIDs (including some cold & flu remedies).
- Do not take if you are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin, other NSAIDs or codeine, or if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction after taking them.
- Do not use in children under 12. Codeine must not be used in children under 12 due to the risk of breathing problems.
- Do not take if you currently have, or have had, a stomach/duodenal ulcer, or bleeding in the stomach or intestines, or if you have severe heart, kidney or liver problems, unless advised by your doctor.
- Do not take if you are breastfeeding. Codeine passes into breastmilk and can affect your baby.
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking if you have asthma, high blood pressure, are dehydrated, elderly, have bowel problems, take blood-thinners (e.g. warfarin), other painkillers, antidepressants, or medicines that make you sleepy.
- Driving and machines: this medicine can cause drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.
- Alcohol: avoid alcohol – it can increase drowsiness and the risk of side-effects.
- Pregnancy: do not use in the last 3 months of pregnancy; seek medical advice before using at any time in pregnancy.
- Signs of addiction or overuse: needing to take it for longer than 3 days, taking more than 6 tablets per day, feeling you “need” the medicine, or worsening headaches – seek medical advice immediately.
Seek urgent medical advice if you take too many tablets or if you experience black stools, vomiting blood, breathing difficulties, confusion or severe abdominal pain.
