Imodium Capsules – 12 Capsules

Imodium Capsules provide effective, short-term relief from sudden attacks of diarrhoea. Each capsule contains 2mg of loperamide hydrochloride, which works by slowing bowel activity and helping the body absorb more water and salts from the intestine.

Imodium Capsules are suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over. They may also be used by adults aged 18 years and over for diarrhoea associated with irritable bowel syndrome, provided IBS has previously been diagnosed by a doctor.

Important Information

This medicine treats the symptoms of diarrhoea but does not replace lost fluids. Maintain adequate fluid intake and consider using an oral rehydration product where appropriate. Always read the enclosed patient information leaflet before taking this medicine.

Dosage and Directions

For acute diarrhoea in adults and children aged 12 years and over:

Take two capsules initially.
Take one capsule after each subsequent loose bowel movement.
Do not take more than six capsules in any 24-hour period.
Swallow the capsules with a drink of water.
Do not use for longer than 48 hours without consulting a doctor.

For diarrhoea associated with medically diagnosed IBS in adults aged 18 years and over: Take two capsules initially, followed by one capsule after each loose bowel movement, or take as previously advised by your doctor. Do not exceed six capsules in 24 hours.

Drink plenty of fluids to help replace the water and salts lost during diarrhoea.

Warnings and Precautions

Do not give to children under 12 years of age.
Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration of treatment. Taking more than the recommended amount may cause serious heart problems.
Do not take this medicine if you have blood in your stools and a high temperature.
Do not take it during a flare-up of an inflammatory bowel condition such as ulcerative colitis.
Do not take it if you have severe diarrhoea following treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics.
Do not take it if you are constipated or your abdomen appears swollen.
Stop taking the capsules and seek medical advice if constipation, abdominal swelling or difficulty passing stools develops.
Consult a doctor if your symptoms do not improve within 48 hours.
Speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have liver problems, AIDS, are pregnant, are trying to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
This product contains lactose and may be unsuitable for people with certain hereditary sugar intolerances.
Dizziness, tiredness or drowsiness may occur. Do not drive or operate machinery if affected.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

For IBS-related diarrhoea, seek medical advice before use if your symptoms have changed, you have unexplained weight loss, vomiting, fever, severe constipation, difficulty passing urine, rectal bleeding or have recently travelled abroad.

Ingredients

Active ingredient: Each capsule contains 2mg of loperamide hydrochloride.

Other ingredients: Lactose, maize starch, talc and magnesium stearate (E572).

Capsule shell: Gelatin, titanium dioxide (E171), yellow ferric oxide (E172), black ferrous oxide (E172), indigo carmine (E132) and erythrosine (E127).
