Overview
Ferrograd Filmtabs are modified-release, film-coated tablets containing iron (as ferrous sulfate). The film coat helps mask metallic taste and supports gastrointestinal tolerability.
Who It’s For
- Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over with diagnosed or suspected iron deficiency, as directed by a clinician.
- Not intended for children under 12 years unless specifically prescribed.

Dosage
Adults & 12+ years: Take one tablet once daily, or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Swallow whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or suck the tablet.
- For best absorption, take on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after food). If stomach upset occurs, take with food.
- Avoid taking with tea, coffee, dairy, calcium supplements, antacids, or certain antibiotics — separate dosing by at least 2–3 hours.
- Treatment often continues for several months; continue for as long as advised to restore iron stores.
- Do not exceed the stated dose without medical advice.
Possible Side Effects
- Stomach upset, nausea, constipation, or diarrhoea.
- Dark stools (usually harmless).
- Stop use and seek medical advice if you experience severe abdominal pain, vomiting, rash, swelling, or breathing difficulties.
Warnings & Precautions
- Iron products can be fatal in overdose, especially in children. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
- Do not use if you have iron overload disorders (e.g., haemochromatosis) or receive repeated blood transfusions, unless directed by a doctor.
- Consult your doctor before use if you have stomach or intestinal conditions (e.g., ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease).
- Check with a pharmacist or doctor if you take other medicines (e.g., tetracyclines, quinolones, levothyroxine, bisphosphonates, antacids) due to potential interactions.
- If pregnant or breastfeeding, seek medical advice before use; iron needs vary and dosing may require adjustment.
- Do not use if you are allergic to ferrous sulfate or any of the ingredients.
Ingredients
Each Ferrograd tablet contains Dried Ferrous Sulphate 325 mg (equivalent to 105 mg elemental iron) as the active
ingredient in a controlled-release Gradumet form.
Other ingredients are: methylacrylate methylmethacrylate copolymer (1:1), lactose monohydrate,
povidone, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, ethylcellulose, sodium saccharin, triethyl citrate, sorbitan oleate, castor oil
virgin, titanium dioxide (E171), Erythrosine (E127), and Sunset yellow FCF (E110). Refer to the package leaflet for the complete list of ingredients.
Storage
- Store below 25 °C in a dry place.
- Keep tablets in the original pack to protect from moisture and light.
