Omacor 1000 mg (omega-3-acid ethyl esters) is used to help manage certain lipid (fat) levels in the blood, particularly very high triglycerides, and is often prescribed alongside dietary measures and lifestyle changes as advised by a healthcare professional.

Product Description

Omacor contains highly purified omega-3 fatty acids (mainly EPA and DHA). These fatty acids have been shown to help reduce triglyceride levels in the blood and may support overall cardiovascular management when used as directed by a clinician. This product is typically used on the advice of a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist and is not a substitute for a balanced diet, exercise, or other medications prescribed for cholesterol, blood pressure, or heart conditions.

Indications (as typically prescribed)

Hypertriglyceridaemia (very high levels of triglycerides in the blood), in addition to diet.
As part of secondary prevention after myocardial infarction (heart attack), in combination with other standard treatments – only when specifically prescribed.

Dosage

Always follow the dosage given by your doctor or pharmacist. The following is general information only:

For high triglycerides: Typical dose is 2 capsules daily. If necessary, your doctor may increase the dose to 4 capsules daily.
After a heart attack (if prescribed): Typical dose is 1 capsule daily.

Capsules should be swallowed whole with water and not chewed. They are best taken with meals to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose.

Warnings & Precautions

Bleeding risk: Use with caution if you are taking blood thinners (e.g. warfarin, aspirin in higher doses, clopidogrel) or have a bleeding disorder – your doctor may monitor you more closely.
Allergy: Do not use if you are allergic to fish, soya, or any of the excipients listed in the leaflet.
Liver problems: Your doctor may monitor liver function if you take higher doses (e.g. 4 capsules/day).
Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before use.
Not for emergency use: This product does not treat sudden chest pain, heart attack, or stroke symptoms.

Stop using and seek medical advice if you experience unusual bruising or bleeding, severe stomach pain, or signs of an allergic reaction (swelling, difficulty breathing, rash).
