Ferrous Sulphate 200mg Tablets

Pack size: 168 tablets (6 packs of 28)

Film-coated tablets

Overview

Ferrous Sulphate 200 mg tablets are an iron supplement used to help treat and prevent iron-deficiency anaemia.

What you’ll receive

  • Total quantity: 168 tablets
  • Configuration: 6 x packs of 28 tablets
  • Format: Oral tablets
  • Active ingredient: Ferrous sulphate 200 mg

Dosage & How to Take

  • Adults (treatment of iron-deficiency anaemia): commonly one 200 mg tablet two to three times daily, or as directed by your doctor.
  • Adults (prevention / maintenance): often one 200 mg tablet once daily, or as advised by a healthcare professional.
  • How to take: Swallow with water. For best absorption, take on an empty stomach. If stomach upset occurs, take with food (absorption may be reduced).
  • Avoid with: tea, coffee, dairy, or antacids within 2 hours of your dose (these can reduce iron absorption).
  • Missed dose: Take as soon as you remember unless it’s close to your next dose. Do not double up.

Always follow the dosage given by your prescriber or the leaflet supplied with your specific pack.

Warnings & Important Information

  • Medical advice required: Seek advice before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have kidney or liver problems, inflammatory bowel disease, stomach/duodenal ulcers, or have been told you have iron-overload (e.g., haemochromatosis) or certain types of anaemia not caused by iron deficiency.
  • Do not use if you have conditions involving iron accumulation or if your doctor has advised against iron supplements.
  • Drug interactions: Iron can affect (and be affected by) medicines such as tetracyclines and quinolone antibiotics, levothyroxine, bisphosphonates, penicillamine, methyldopa, zinc, and antacids. Separate dosing by at least 2–4 hours or follow medical advice.
  • Side effects: May cause nausea, constipation or diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, metallic taste, or dark stools. Taking with food may help stomach upset.
  • Accidental overdose warning: Iron overdose can be fatal in children. Keep out of the sight and reach of children at all times.
  • Allergens & excipients: Check the carton and patient information leaflet for a full list of ingredients and possible allergens; formulations vary by brand.
  • Stop and seek advice if you experience severe stomach pain, blood in stools, signs of allergic reaction (rash, wheeze, swelling), or if symptoms persist or worsen.
