Canesten

The Canesten Combi pack provides targeted relief for the symptoms of vaginal thrush (candidiasis). It combines a vaginal pessary to treat the cause of the infection and a 2% clotrimazole external cream (10 g) to soothe itching and soreness around the vulva.

Is It Thrush?

Typical thrush symptoms include itching, soreness, redness and a thick white discharge with no strong odour. If your discharge is green/grey, has a strong smell, or you have pain or fever, get medical advice.

Dosage & Directions

Adults and adolescents (16+)

Pessary: Insert one pessary high into the vagina, preferably at night before bed.
External cream 2%: Apply a thin layer to the affected external area (vulva and surrounding skin)
2–3 times daily until symptoms settle (usually up to 3 days). Use only externally.

Read the enclosed leaflet before use. If symptoms persist, recur within 2 months, or you are unsure the condition is thrush,
seek advice from a pharmacist or doctor.

How to Insert the Pessary

Wash and dry hands. Remove the pessary from the packaging.
Lie on your back with knees bent and gently insert the pessary as high as comfortable.
Wash hands again. Consider using a panty liner overnight.

Active Ingredient

Clotrimazole — an antifungal agent that inhibits growth of Candida yeasts.

Pessary: contains clotrimazole (commonly 500 mg per pessary).
External cream: clotrimazole 2% w/w in a 10 g tube.

Warnings & Precautions

Do not use if you are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the ingredients.
First-time symptoms? Speak to a healthcare professional before use.
See a doctor if any of the following apply:
- Fever, lower abdominal/back pain, foul-smelling or blood-stained discharge.
- Ulcers, blisters, sores, or pain during urination.
- Irregular or unexpected bleeding.
- Recurrent thrush (≥2 episodes in 6 months) or no improvement within 7 days.
Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Seek medical advice before use. If advised to use, insert the pessary without an applicator.
Latex precautions: The cream may reduce the effectiveness of latex condoms and diaphragms during treatment and for a short time after use.
Do not use during menstruation. Avoid tampons, douching, spermicides or other intravaginal products while using the pessary.
For external cream: for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes or mouth.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
