Canesten Cream 50g – Clotrimazole 1% w/w

Antifungal cream for common fungal skin infections

Canesten Cream (clotrimazole 1% w/w) is an easy-to-apply antifungal cream used to treat athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), ringworm (tinea corporis), fungal sweat rash (intertrigo) and skin yeast infections caused by Candida.

One tube containing 50g of cream with 1% w/w clotrimazole (10 mg per gram).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use it with a steroid cream? Only if advised by a healthcare professional. Apply products at different times if instructed. When will I feel relief? Itching often eases within a few days; complete the full course to reduce the chance of recurrence.
Important: Always read the label and package leaflet. If you are unsure about your symptoms or they persist, talk to your pharmacist or doctor.
 

Dosage & Directions for Use

  1. Clean & dry the affected skin thoroughly.
  2. Apply a thin layer to the affected area and surrounding skin.
  3. Adults & children (≥2 years): apply 2–3 times daily (morning and night; a third time may be used if advised).
  4. Duration:
    • Athlete’s foot & ringworm: typically 2–4 weeks.
    • Jock itch & sweat rash: typically 2–3 weeks.

    Continue for about 2 weeks after symptoms clear to help prevent recurrence.

  5. Wash hands after application. Do not cover with airtight dressings unless told by a healthcare professional.

Tip: For athlete’s foot, change socks daily, keep feet dry, and treat shoes/surfaces to reduce reinfection.

Active & Other Ingredients

  • Active: Clotrimazole 1% w/w.
  • Also contains: common cream bases. Some variants may include benzyl alcohol (preservative) and cetostearyl alcohol (may cause local skin reactions). Check the carton/leaflet for the exact list.

Warnings & Precautions

  • For external use only. Do not swallow or insert.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to clotrimazole or other imidazole antifungals.
  • Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or broken skin. If contact occurs, rinse with water.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding: generally considered compatible; however, consult your doctor/pharmacist before use. If breastfeeding, avoid application to the breast area.
  • Warfarin interaction: rare cases of increased bleeding reported with topical clotrimazole. If you take warfarin or other anticoagulants, seek advice and monitor as directed.
  • Children <2 years: seek medical advice before use.
  • Stop use and consult a healthcare professional if irritation, redness, swelling, or symptoms worsen or do not improve within 7 days.
  • Do not use on nails or scalp unless advised by a healthcare professional.

Possible Side Effects

Most people experience no side effects. Rarely, local irritation such as burning, stinging, redness, itching, or rash may occur. If severe, discontinue use and seek advice.

How to Store

  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Store below 25 °C. Do not freeze.
  • Do not use after the expiry date shown on the tube/carton.
