Product description

CosmoCol Orange, Lemon & Lime is an osmotic laxative for the treatment of chronic constipation and for the disimpaction (faecal impaction) regimen when advised by a healthcare professional. Each sachet contains macrogol 3350 plus electrolytes (sodium chloride, sodium hydrogen carbonate, potassium chloride). When mixed with water it forms an oral solution that softens stools and increases bowel movement frequency.

Adults and adolescents aged 12+ for constipation. Use for faecal impaction only on medical advice.

How to prepare

Empty one sachet into a glass.
Add about 125 ml (half a glass) of water.
Stir until the powder is fully dissolved, then drink.

You can chill the solution after mixing. Discard any unused mixed solution within 24 hours.

Dosage

Chronic constipation (adults, elderly, and children ≥12 years)

1 sachet, taken 1 to 3 times daily, according to response.
Once symptoms improve, you may reduce to the lowest effective dose.
Course length: usually not more than 2 weeks for a single episode of constipation. Longer use may be needed for persistent constipation under medical advice.

Faecal impaction (only after a doctor/pharmacist has confirmed this condition)

8 sachets in one day, taken over a period of up to 6 hours, for up to 3 consecutive days if required.
If you have a heart condition, do not take more than 2 sachets per hour.

Children under 12: This specific product is not usually recommended; paediatric formulations are available—ask a pharmacist or doctor.

Warnings & precautions

Do not use if you are allergic to macrogol (polyethylene glycol) or any ingredient in the sachet.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use if you have severe inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal perforation/obstruction, paralytic ileus, or risk of aspiration.
Electrolytes: Contains sodium and potassium. If you are on a controlled sodium or potassium diet, have kidney, heart or liver problems, or are taking diuretics, seek advice.
Signs of imbalance: Stop treatment and seek medical help if you develop swelling, shortness of breath, fatigue, dehydration, or muscle weakness.
Other medicines: Leave a gap of at least 2 hours between CosmoCol and other oral medicines to avoid affecting their absorption.
Pregnancy/breast-feeding: Ask a healthcare professional for advice before use.
If symptoms persist beyond 14 days for constipation, or if abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, consult a healthcare professional.
