Dosage & How to Take
- Adults and older adults: Chew or allow to dissolve in the mouth 1–2 tablets daily, in divided doses if preferred, or as directed by a healthcare professional.
- Adolescents (12–18 years): Typically 1 tablet daily, or as advised by a healthcare professional.
- Children under 12 years: Use only on medical advice.
Tip: If you also take iron, zinc, bisphosphonates, levothyroxine, tetracyclines or quinolone antibiotics, take them at a different time of day (see Warnings) to avoid absorption issues.
Directions
- Chew thoroughly or let the tablet dissolve in the mouth.
- May be taken with or without food.
- Do not exceed the recommended daily dose unless your doctor or pharmacist tells you to.
Warnings & Precautions
- Do not use if you have hypercalcaemia (high blood calcium), severe kidney problems, a history of kidney stones, or hyperparathyroidism unless advised by a doctor.
- Talk to your doctor before use if you have sarcoidosis, are on a low-phosphate or low-sodium diet, or are prone to kidney stones.
- Other vitamins/minerals: Avoid taking additional high-dose vitamin D or calcium products without medical advice.
- Medicine interactions: Calcium can reduce absorption of certain medicines. Separate doses by:
- 2+ hours: Levothyroxine, iron, zinc, magnesium, bisphosphonates*.
- 3–4 hours: Tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics.
- Thiazide diuretics may increase calcium levels—seek advice.
*Follow the specific timing on your bisphosphonate label (often take on an empty stomach and wait before any calcium).
- Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Generally compatible at recommended intakes; consult a healthcare professional for individual advice.
- Possible side effects: Mild gastrointestinal upset (e.g., constipation, wind, nausea) may occur. Stop use and seek advice if signs of high calcium appear (e.g., excessive thirst, frequent urination, abdominal pain, confusion) or if you experience allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).
- Allergens & excipients: Check the packaging for the full ingredient list and sweeteners if you have intolerances.
- Keep out of reach of children.
