How It Works

Lidocaine and prilocaine temporarily block nerve signals in the skin. When applied in a thick layer and covered with an occlusive dressing, they penetrate the upper layers of skin to reduce pain from needles and superficial procedures. You may still feel pressure or touch.

FAQs

How long does the numbing last? After removal, the numbing effect usually persists long enough to complete common needle or minor skin procedures. Can I reuse the same area soon after? Leave sufficient time between applications.

Directions & Dosage

Adults & adolescents Apply a thick layer to clean, intact skin to fully cover the planned area (approx. 1 g per 10 cm²). Cover with an airtight/occlusive dressing. Typical application time: ~60 minutes on intact skin (range 1–5 hours depending on procedure). Remove the cream and clean the area just before the procedure.

Leg ulcers: Use only under medical guidance for cleansing/debridement.

Application tips:

Measure roughly 1 g as a length of cream ~3.5 cm from the tube nozzle.
Do not rub in; spread a thick, even layer and cover with an occlusive dressing unless told otherwise.
Mark the time applied; remove dressing and wipe off cream before the procedure.

Ingredients

Active: Lidocaine 25 mg/g, Prilocaine 25 mg/g. Excipients include: polyoxyethylene fatty acid esters, carbomer, sodium hydroxide, purified water (see leaflet for full list).

Warnings & Precautions

Do not use if you are allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine, other “-caine” local anaesthetics, or any ingredient in the cream.
External use on intact skin only. Do not use on broken/irritated skin (exception: leg ulcers under medical supervision). Avoid eyes, inside the nose/mouth, ears, or deep/open wounds.
Infants: Follow age-specific limits above. Do not use in infants under 12 months taking medicines that can cause methaemoglobinaemia (ask a pharmacist/doctor).
Talk to your doctor/pharmacist before use if you or your child have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, methaemoglobinaemia, atopic dermatitis (often requires shorter application time), severe liver disease, or if using other local anaesthetics or certain anti-arrhythmic medicines.
Possible side effects: temporary paleness/redness, mild swelling or itching at the site; rarely, allergic reactions or signs of methaemoglobinaemia (grey/blue lips or skin, unusual tiredness, shortness of breath). Seek medical help urgently if serious reactions occur.
