Ibuprofen Gel 5% is a fast-absorbing topical gel used to relieve pain and inflammation in muscle strains, sprains, sports injuries, backache, rheumatic and muscular pain. It delivers ibuprofen directly to the affected area to help reduce swelling and soothe soreness without the systemic exposure of a tablet.

How it works

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis to help decrease pain and swelling at the site of application.

FAQ

Can I use it with heat rubs or other topical NSAIDs? No—avoid using multiple topical NSAIDs or heat rubs on the same area to reduce irritation risk. Can I bandage the area? You may use a light, breathable support once the gel is fully dry. Avoid airtight dressings. Will it affect my stomach like tablets? Systemic exposure is much lower than with oral ibuprofen, but side effects can still occur—use the smallest amount for the shortest time.

Dosage & Directions

Who can use: Adults and children 12 years and over.
How much: Gently massage 2–5 cm of gel over the affected area.
How often: Up to 3–4 times daily as needed. Do not exceed 4 applications in 24 hours.
How to apply: Apply a thin layer and massage until absorbed. Wash hands after use (unless treating hands).
Duration: For soft tissue injuries, use for up to 2 weeks; for arthritis flare-ups, up to 4 weeks, unless advised otherwise by a healthcare professional.
Missed application: Apply when remembered; do not double the next amount.
Do not use with occlusive (airtight) dressings unless a healthcare professional tells you to.

Topical products are for external use only. Do not apply to broken, infected, eczematous, or sunburnt skin. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, lips, and genital areas.

Warnings & Precautions

Do not use if you are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs, or if previous use has caused wheezing, runny nose, swelling, hives, or severe skin reactions.
Asthma: Seek advice before use if you have asthma, particularly if it is aspirin/NSAID-sensitive.
Pregnancy: Do not use in the third trimester. Seek medical advice during the first and second trimesters.
Breastfeeding: Generally considered compatible with short-term, small-area use; avoid application to the breast and wash hands before feeding.
Children under 12 years: Not recommended unless advised by a healthcare professional.
Interactions: Systemic absorption is low, but take care if you also use oral NSAIDs, aspirin, anticoagulants, or high-dose corticosteroids.
